Esau represents a man of the world, and Jacob a man of God, although there are blemishes in his life. As a man’s countenance will often reveal the course of life he is leading, so the several sentences that speak of Esau indicate what kind of a character he was.

During the siege of Jerusalem in 588 b.c. the Babylonians temporarily withdrew from the city to fight an army sent out by Egypt, one of Judah’s allies. Jeremiah warned Zedekiah that the city’s relief was only temporary. The Babylonians would push back the Egyptians and then destroy Jerusalem. Jeremiah was arrested as a traitor, beaten, and imprisoned for a lengthy period of time in a dungeon. Zedekiah eventually sent for Jeremiah to see if he had any new word from the Lord. Jeremiah repeated his earlier message of judgment, protested his innocence, and asked the king not to send him back to the dungeon. Zedekiah granted his request and sent him to the courtyard of the guard.

And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears. 1 Sa 3:10.

Consider the more obvious points of contact between Samson and Jesus which make Samson a type of Christ:

Seven times we are told that Caleb wholly followed the Lord, or more correctly, the term “wholly” is found in association with Caleb seven times. Once the same Hebrew word is rendered “fully” (Num. 14:24).
